We have a very special surprise for you this week. We asked four interns what they wore to their interviews with Bayer and whether they have noticed any particular dress code during their internships. You can find the exclusive answers from Kala, Johanna, Phuong and Louisa in a four-part series on our career blog.
Department: Global Mobility
Did you buy a new outfit specially for your interview at Bayer?
No! I came in a smart casual outfit with my favorite blazer, and managed to show off more than just my skills in the interview ;-).
What was particularly important in your choice of outfit?
I wanted to come across as stylish, but still serious. I leave my ripped jeans at home on a day like that, along with my worn-out sneakers!
Imagine you were leading an interview panel – what would turn you off at first glance?
A scruffy overall appearance. For example, if the candidate clearly hasn’t been to the hairdresser in weeks, or their fingernails and shoes are dirty. These are simple little things that you take into account in both your professional and private life.
Do you have any other advice for potential applicants?
Bayer isn’t a fashion company, so your outfit won’t make or break your interview. If you have been invited to an interview but aren’t sure what to wear, just ask the department beforehand whether they have a preferred dress code. I would also choose discreet colors. Garish colors and a wild mix of patterns can be seen as aggressive.
My favorite gray blazer.
