Where theory meets practice
My name is Le Minh, I have previously worked as a process manager in the energy and retailing industry and at moment, I am doing an MBA at the Warwick Business School. By carrying out an internship within Bayer Business Consulting, I intended to get an insight into what in-house consulting is like especially in an innovative company. I wanted to find out about the typical role and nature of projects and also learn about the required skill set of a consultant.
Working at BC I enjoyed the great working environment and atmosphere at Bayer Business Consulting right from the start. Everybody there was very friendly, open-minded and helpful. What impressed me most, however, was the team spirit. I also appreciated how each team member took time to answer my questions at all times regarding the project, the organization itself or those numerous abbreviations.
Having had the opportunity to be involved in two different projects, I have realized that the range of projects is very large as well as the skill set required. Soft skills and hard skills are equally important for the success of a project and, for that, I am happy to see that what I have studied is being used in real business context.
For me, this internship has proved the relevancy of the MBA and its value. It has not only given me the opportunity to get an insight into Bayer but also gave me a very positive impression on Bayer’s in-house consulting. The skills and experience gained are very valuable as they are on the one hand transferable and on the other hand have confirmed my career preferences.
Life at Bayer
Now, let’s turn to the fun part of the internship. I have really enjoyed the various activities organized by Bayer in order to give us as interns the chance to meet the numerous other interns as well as the University & Talent Relations staff. On the one hand, the various events have enabled me to get to know a quite international pool of interns and to exchange with them regarding my experience in Bayer Business Consulting. Most interestingly, when interacting with other interns for the very first time I realized how fast I actually identified with Bayer Business Consulting’s identity by promoting what it is doing. On the other hand, I had the opportunity to lead discussions with many employees who gave me a valuable and credible insight of the career perspectives within Bayer. On top of this, Bayer Business Consulting also organizes internal events, which offer a great chance to network. During working day, especially the coffee area turned out to be a great place for meeting other colleagues who never hesitate to introduce themselves when seeing new faces around.
All in all after 3 months of working at Bayer, I have discovered more than just the professional aspect of in-house consulting but also the human side of it. The internship has given me an insight into Bayer Business Consulting making me aware that it is not only hard work, but also holds fun and great learning opportunities.
